Southborough Recreation is promoting a one-day, after school event for 2nd – 5th grade chess lovers, and beginner players, during Halloween week.

Rec promotes the “Halloween Chess Tournament” to be run by Chess Wizards, promising “a fun, spooky afternoon of chess!”. It will be held Wednesday, October 29th.

Halloween Chess TournamentThe event page describes:

Players will be grouped into two divisions—Beginner and Advanced—and will compete in four 15–20 minute rounds. This is a non-elimination tournament, so every student will enjoy multiple games regardless of results. . .

Bring that spooky-energy for afternoon of strategy, fun, and celebration!

Prizes will be awarded in each division to the to 1st and 2nd place winners. (Plus, medals for all participants.)

Rec will transport the kids to their building (21 Highland Street) for the event after school. Pickup is required at 5:30 pm, but parents are invited to come 15 minutes earlier to attend the awards ceremony.

The cost is $50 per child. You can sign them up here.

While you’re at it, you may also want to sign kids up for one or more of the upcoming one-day RAP programs being offered later this fall. (Most of them are previews of longer RAP sessions kids will be able to sign up for this winter.) Check out the flyers below and find the registration pages here.
