The Assabet Valley Mastersingers will perform their fall concert in Southborough’s Pilgrim Congregational Church a week from Sunday.

The concert theme is “Spirit of the Heart”. Promotions describe the program as choral performances of two classical works that “explore faith, memory, and the emotions that connect us to something greater.”

The concert will feature “Beethoven’s deeply expressive Mass in C and [Maurice] Duruflé’s poignant Requiem”. The latter will be backed by an organist (explaining the choice of venue for the concert!)

AVM is selling tickets, and sharing information about a discount supported by the Mass Cultural Council through financial needs-based programs. (Scroll down for those details.)

Spirit of the Heart Flyer - Nov 16 2025The concert will be held on Sunday, November 16 at 3:30 pm. It is the first concert of the season for the regional by-audition chorus led by Dr. Robert Eaton.

The press release promotes both the concert and the season:

Join the choir to kick off this inspiring season of music by AVM that speaks to unity, resilience, and hope. Our 2025-2026 season, “Together We Can”, brings powerful works together that celebrate the strength of the human spirit. . .

The Mass in C was written during the middle period of Beethoven’s musical career; this was Beethoven’s first mass and very much influenced by the aura of Haydn’s reputation. Durufle’s Requiem features impressionistic harmonies and is deeply serene and meditative.

Tickets are free to children under 12 with an accompanying adult. General admission is $25, or $20 for seniors and students. There are also special discounts available for people enrolled in some needs-based programs:

AVM is part of the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Card to Culture program, which grants EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare cardholders access to steeply discounted tickets from a variety of arts, humanities, and science organizations across the Commonwealth. Cardholders may order up to four tickets online by applying the promo code MASSCTOC and selecting manual payment type. The same discounted costs, $5.00 for general or $4.00 for senior/student admission, are payable at the concert for preordered, or onsite-requested CTOC tickets.
