Above: A resident “menopause advocate” is co-hosting a “patient-centered” talk and Q&A in town next week.
A week from tomorrow, the community is invited to a “no-nonsense” talk hosted by “The Whiny GYNie” focused on (peri) menopause.
There is a fee to attend the “Evidence-based” discussion with tips and Q&A with a resident-advocate and an OB/GYN.
The event is targeted to “Anyone navigating midlife symptoms + the people who love and support them (including partners and spouses)”.
The “Menopause Talk” will be held at the Community House, at 28 Main Street, on Thursday, December 11th. It will run from 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm. Tickets are available online for $40 each here.
The talk is co-hosted by Southborough’s Andrea Giancontieri, founder of The Whiny GYNie, a “guide to navigating the challenges of perimenopause and menopause with confidence and care.”
Giancontieri’s bio on the website bio describes her as:
a digital advertising veteran turned passionate advocate for women’s health, education, and the rights of underserved communities. Drawing on her extensive background in digital advertising, she crafts engaging and digestible menopause content that combines facts with humor, making complex information accessible and relatable to her audience.
For next week’s event, she’s joined by Join Menopause Society Certified GYN-Dr. Anila S. Jha.
The event page invites the public to an:
empowering, no-nonsense conversation about perimenopause and menopause from both the clinical and patient perspective. We’ll cover symptoms, evidence-based care, menopause hormone therapy (MHT, sometimes called HRT), non-hormonal options, workplace tips, ways to save on prescriptions, the status of MA menopause related legislation, and how to advocate for yourself.
Wondering about the company name? The website explains:
Whiny GYNie is a play on a derogatory term used to describe “difficult patients” by the medical community. The name perpetuates the idea that symptoms women face should be dismissed, minimized &/or ignored.
Practitioners lacking menopause education or those undereducated regarding perimenopause and menopause have often minimized the experience of patients. The blame for their symptoms were often placed anywhere but the root cause, estrogen depletion
At The Whiny GYNie LLC, we endeavor to take the moniker back, remove the stigma around gynecological issues & menopause and to lobby practitioners to seek appropriate continuing education to better serve 50% of the population.
