Aid cuts mean bigger class sizes at Algonquin, but no layoffs

A number of classes at Algonquin this year are more crowded than they were last year. The Metrowest Daily News reports that at last week’s school committee meeting, Superintendent Charles Gobron said 28 classes have 25 or more students this year, as opposed to seven in 2008. With the special town meeting next week, it’s not surprising that many town committees will spend their time preparing this week. The Advisory Committee and Board of Selectmen meet separately on Monday to talk about town meeting. They’ll also meet jointly on Tuesday to sync up articles that require funding, like the new ladder truck.
