St. Mark’s open for skating this weekend

The St. Mark’s ice rink will be open for public skating this weekend. There are times for both free skate and for those who want to brush up on their hockey skills. Note that sticks/pucks are not allowed during the open skate times. Keep reading for the schedule.

Regional school committee votes to put assessment compromise before voters again

For two years now the towns of Northborough and Southborough have been at odds about how to assess debt payments for the Algonquin building project. A compromise plan put forward by the Regional School Committee was overwhelmingly rejected by Southborough voters at town meeting last April.

The week in government

With the holiday on Thursday, it’s a light meeting schedule this week. The Board of Selectmen will meet on Tuesday to do goal setting for fiscal year 2010. They’ll also accept PILOT (payment in lieu of taxes) donations from Harvard and the New England Center for Children.

Algonquin girls win the state championship

The Algonquin girls soccer team captured their first-ever state championship yesterday, beating out nationally-ranked Acton-Boxborough by a score of 1-0. Southborough’s Sam Friday scored the only goal.
