Southborough committees look to fill vacancies

Looking to get more involved in your community? How about a spot on one of the town boards or committees? There’s something for everyone whether you’re interested in historic preservation, the environment, fiscal responsibility, youth and recreation, or any number of other topics.

Here’s a list of committees that have vacancies. You can find a volunteer form on the town website. Not sure what one of these committees does? Ask about it in the comments.

  • Advisory Committee – 1 opening, 3-year term
  • American with Disabilities Act Committee – 2 openings, 1-year term
  • Capital Budget Committee – 1 opening, 3-year term
  • Fence Viewer – 1 opening, 1-year term
  • Field Driver – 1 opening, 1-year term
  • Historical Commission – 3 openings, 3-year term
  • Open Space Preservation Commission – 2 openings, 5-year term
  • Phase II Stormwater Committee – 2 openings, 1-year term
  • PILOT Committee – 1 opening, 1-year term
  • Recreation Commission – 1 opening, 3-year term
  • Southborough Housing Opportunity Partnership Committee (SHOPC) – 2 openings, 3-year term
  • Southborough Scholarship Advisory Committee – 1 opening, 3-year term
  • Southborough Stewardship Committee – 2 openings, 1-year term

Update 10/20: The list of vacancies I originally posted was outdated. I’ve now posted the current one. Sorry about that.

Does anyone know where I can find committee descriptions? I looked on the town website and can’t find anything. I’d be interested in getting involved, but I have no idea what a lot of these committees do. Thanks!

Some of the committees – but not all – write up a blurb to include in the annual town report. That may help you figure out what they do. You can find a copy of last year’s annual report on the town website at A few also have websites and I’ve added links to those where available.

One other note – I pulled an outdated list of vacancies for the original post. It’s now been updated with the current list.
