Biggest prize in history: Did you buy a Mega Millions ticket? (with POLL)

What would you do with a cool half-billion? With tonight’s estimated $540M Mega Millions drawing the largest in lottery history, it’s the question everyone is asking.

Your chance of winning the grand prize? According to the Mega Millions website it’s a mere one in 176 million. But the slim odds won’t stop most from trying, especially those of us in Massachusetts.

According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Massachusetts residents spend more than those in any other state on lottery tickets. The average adult in Massachusetts spends $830 on lottery tickets each year, a whopping 1.3% of our average personal income. Massachusetts also has the highest lottery payout of any state, but the degree of spending still earned us the number two spot in Bloomberg’s sucker index.

So, did you – or are you planning to – buy a ticket for tonight’s Mega Millions drawing? Do you regularly buy lottery tickets, or were you caught up in the frenzy? Share your answer in the poll below. As for what you’d do with the cash if you won, let us know in the comments!
