St. Mark’s spring sports season underway

St. Mark’s has started its spring sports season, and the school sent along this update on how it’s going so far.

Team of the Week:
Varsity girls’ lacrosse: This past Saturday, the St. Mark’s Varsity girls’ lacrosse team took on the New Hampton School and pulled out a 13-11 victory to begin their season. Hope D’Orsi ‘14 led all scorers with 5 goals and Mikaela Karlsson ‘14 stopped 65% of the shots in the net for the Lions. With many new faces on this year’s team and with the loss of last year’s seniors, the 2013 team is young, but talented. It was an excellent start to a promising season.

Alumna of the Week:
Gabby Starkey ‘12 is currently a freshman attacker on No. 12 nationally-ranked division I Dartmouth’s women’s lacrosse team. Gabby scored three goals in a tough 15-16 double overtime loss to UVM. The Big Green are undefeated in Ivy League play and are 7-3 overall. They have five games remaining on their schedule before post-season play begins. While at St. Mark’s, Gabby was a three sport varsity captain of soccer, basketball, and lacrosse. In her 5th form year, she was named a lacrosse Under Armour All-American, NEPSAC All-State Team, All-ISL First Team, and team MVP. Gabby was also on the All-ISL First team for soccer her final year at St. Mark’s.
