Reminder: Scouting for Food pickup was this morning

Above: Scouting for Food is a national Boy Scout initiative. But in Southborough, Cub Scouts and many Girl Scouts join forces with them to support the Food Pantry. (photo contributed in 2011)

I just realized that my pre-scheduled reminder to put out your Scouting for Food bags failed to post yesterday. So, I’m reminding you now.

Scouts were out this morning, hoping to gather a bounty for the Southborough Food Pantry. Some will still be collecting until about noon – but the deadline for having bags out was 9am. So, if you forgot – you may have missed it.

Never fear – they are still collecting and sorting at Pilgrim Church – at least until noon and maybe a while after that.

(If you do miss today’s big drive – you can still bring by your donation to Pilgrim or another donation dropoff location later. Click here for details on how to contribute year round.)

Here is the announcement again:

Scouting for Food

Sample donation bag (contributed photo)Saturday, November 3rd marks the beginning of Southborough’s Annual Scouting for Food drive. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts all over town will be hanging bags on doorknobs to collect donations to benefit the Southborough Food Pantry. This is the largest food drive of the entire year for the Southborough Food Pantry and is essential for keeping the shelves stocked through the winter and beyond. Last year, Scouts collected 8,300 lbs. of donated food and pantry items!

Making a donation is simple. Just fill the bag (or more) with contributions of food, personal care, and paper products. Leave any filled bags or boxes next to your mailbox by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th, when Scouts will come and pick up your donation. Please be sure to check expiration dates on food items, as the food pantry cannot distribute expired food.

The Southborough Food Pantry and the Scouts thank you for your support!
