Girl Scout troop thanks generous community for donating roses to seniors

[Some people like the idea of “Flashback Fridays”. I’ve decided, I’d rather think of it as “Feelgood Fridays”. My new plan is striving to share reasons to smile every Friday. A thank you to generous community members is always a good one.]

This spring, a town Girl Scout troop raising funds for a trip held a special Mother’s Day fundraiser. The girls sold rose bouquets in vases to purchase for gifts to mom. But they also coordinated a special opportunity for residents to donate flowers to senior mothers in town.

The Southborough Senior Center agreed to deliver donated flowers to ladies who were housebound.* (Some were apparently also delivered when reciepients visited the center.) Flowers were given out the Friday before Mother’s Day.

I sadly missed the deadline for sharing the donation opportunity. But I’m happy to be able to share the thanks the troop’s thanks to those who supported the effort.

Troop 85160 has asked me to thank generous donors:

From our flower fundraiser, we were able to deliver 15 6-rose bouquets to senior citizen moms in Southborough. . .

The seniors were deeply touched – one had recently lost her husband, and another’s only daughter was overseas. Another unfortunately passed away on Monday morning, but she had a huge smile when she received the flowers the Friday before.**

Cards on the bouquets wished the ladies a Happy Mothers Day and noted the family that donated the gift.

The troop shared some of the photos the Senior Center took of happy recipients:

Thank you to the donors, the troop, and the senior center for giving some residents a reason to smile.

*For liability reasons, the scouts were not allowed to deliver bouquets directly.
