Why flags will be at half staff: October 5 and 6, 2019

Flags in Southborough and across the nation will be flying at half staff this Saturday, October 5, 2019 from sunrise to sunset and again on Sunday, October 6 2019.

The October 5th tribute is in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Eric Hill, United States Army Reserve, of Boston, Massachusetts, who died on September 14, 2019 of natural causes. He will be laid to rest this Saturday.

The October 6th tribute is to honor the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. This weekend is the 38th Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend:

Every October, the Foundation sponsors the official national tribute to all firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year.

In 2001, U.S. Congress passed a joint resolution that every year, the nation would honor the memorial service.
