Four Algonquin teams competed in post-season tournaments last week.  Three of them had results that ARHS Athletics was happy to boast about.

The school tweeted:

Girls & Boys Swim/Dive Teams wrapped up another amazing season with tremendous performances at the MidWach League Championships. Out of 12 teams, the Boys Team placed 2nd and the Girls Team placed 1st, repeating as League Champs! Congrats!!!

You can read more about there success in the Telegram. Both teams will compete in their Central-West District Sectionals on Sunday.

Another tweet congratulated:

Girls track with a brilliant team performance at the league meet this morning. After several lead changes Wachusett edges Algonquin 128-124. Girls finish as league runners up. Great job T-Hawks!!

Looking back, a T&G story prior to the competition set the stage for that outcome, indicating that Wachusett was the only team to beat the Gonk Girls in meets this winter.

The track teams will compete in two invitationals this weekend.

ARHS Girls Hockey had an uneven week. They lost to Natick, but followed with a dramatic last minute win over Lincoln-Sudbury. Wicked Local covered:

After the Warriors (5-6-4) tied the game at two apiece on a deflection off of a shot from Catrina Tobin with 30 seconds remaining in the third period, [Kerryn] O’Connell took a pass from [Amy] MacGlashing, a Marlborough High [senior], off the ensuing faceoff.

O’Connell, an Algonquin junior, then buried the puck into the back of the net for the game-winning-goal. (read more)

A MWDN sports journalist caught up with the duo after the game:

Over the last week, ARHS Boys Hockey lost a game, T-Hawks Boys Basketball scored two wins and a loss, and Girls Basketball scored one win and two losses.

ARHS Wrestling improved its score with one win last week, bringing its record to 6-3-2. While Nashoba has dominated this season, the Telegram wrote that one of its coaches is taking a longer term optimistic view:

James Gray, who co-coaches Algonquin with Brian Kramer, made a bold prediction last week when he said, “We have a lot of young, strong wrestlers and I think over the next two or three years we’re going to give Nashoba a run for their money.” (read more)

Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for this week.
