Library adding interactive zoom story times for preschoolers

Starting this week, the Southborough Library will launch Preschool Story Times over zoom.

While “Miss Kim” will continue holding story times on Facebook, she’s hoping zoom sessions will allow her to interact with kids.

Zoom Story TimesThe Preschool Story Times are for children ages 2-6.

Prior to the pandemic, Children’s Librarian Kim Ivers would read stories to preschoolers three mornings per week for most of the school year. In the spring, she launched Facebook Live reading sessions. But those are one way, with Ivers reading into a webcam.

Ivers was thrilled to be able to hold in-person Story Times on the lawn last fall. Then, the weather turned too cold. She can’t wait to resume those in the spring.

In the meantime, she hopes zoom sessions will allow her to see and respond to kids’ reactions to stories and finger puppet plays. She also hopes to hear their voices join her in songs.

The zoom sessions will take place on Thursday mornings from 10:30 – 11:00 am. Free pre-registration is through Southborough Recreation here.

In addition, on Tuesday mornings she’ll stream stories on Facebook Live from 10:30 – 11:00 am, no registration required. (Afterwards the videos remain posted to replay.)
