Public meeting on Main Street reconstruction project

The project to overhaul Main Street hit a speedbump earlier this year when MassHighway rejected the town’s initial design. Since then, the town has been working with new consultants to come up with a revised proposal. You’ll get a chance to hear about the redesign at a public meeting on Thursday.

At the meeting, project engineers Vanasse Hangen Brustlin Inc., of Worcester will present cross sections that address MassHighway’s concerns with the original design. They’ll also give some background and review the comments that came in as part of the last public meeting in March.

The state-funded portion of the Main Street reconstruction project extends from Sears Road through Park Street. The town is also considering a second phase of the project to tackle Park Street through Boston Road.

DPW Karen Galligan said earlier this year that they hope to resubmit plans to the state this fall. The earliest construction would begin is 2011.

The public meeting takes place on Thursday, June 4 at 7:30 pm at Cordaville Hall (Senior Center).
