Selectmen and Planning Board to consider Main Street plans

main-streetParking or no parking. Sidewalks or no sidewalks. Trees and green space. Room for bike travel. Stone walls.

All of these things and more were considered by a couple dozen residents last month at a public meeting to review options for a redesigned Main Street.

The residents weighed in on a host of different plans for the stretches of Main Street being considered for redesign: Sears Road to Common Street, the Town Common area, and Cordaville Road to Latisquama Road.

Tonight the Planning Board gets a chance to review the plans and make a recommendation on which ones it thinks the town should move forward with. The selectmen have their turn on Tuesday night.

Whichever roadway plan wins the endorsement of the selectmen will be further developed to the 25% design stage and then submitted to MassHighway for approval.

It will be the second time the town has sought approval from MassHighway, which is footing the bill for the project. Earlier this year, they rejected the initial plans citing concerns about safety.

The presentation to the Planning Board starts tonight at 8:00 pm. The selectmen meeting on Tuesday starts at 7:00 pm. Both meetings take place in the Hearing Room on the second floor of the Town House and both are open to the public. You can check out all the Main Street design options on the town website.
