Countdown to school: Back-to-school shopping

School starts two weeks from today. If that’s not sobering enough for you parents out there, the thought of buying all the supplies your kids need for the start of school surely will be.

To make your shopping a bit easier, I’ve trolled the school websites to compile as many supply lists as I could find. I couldn’t track them all down, but perhaps those of you in the know could provide any missing links in the comments. Here’s what I have:

Finn School
No supply lists posted

Woodward School
Grade 2 (.pdf)
Grade 3 (.pdf)

Neary School
No supply lists posted

Trottier School
Grade 6 (.doc)
Grade 7 (.doc)
Grade 8 (.doc)

The National Retail Federation says the average family of K-12 students will spend about $600 on back-to-school items this year. If your kid is going to college, be prepared to spend more like $800 stocking up.

A My Southborough reader sent along this article that has tips on maximizing your back-to-school dollars. Whether you’re looking for pens and pencils or must-have wardrobe items, what are some of your strategies for back-to-school shopping? Where do you like to pick up the essentials? How do you get the best deals? Share your suggestions in the comments.
