Sudbury Valley Trustees in conjunction with the Department of Conservation and Recreation recently constructed a new trail over Walnut Hill in the northwest corner of Southborough, and on Saturday they’ll hold a grand opening celebration.

The trail offers an additional loop adjacent to SVT’s Sawink Farm, and also connects to the many miles of trails in the Crane Swamp area. SVT says it will provide a connection for trails throughout the Crane Swamp with additional hiking opportunities along the Reservoir Trail in Southborough. A trail map is available on the SVT website.

Construction of the new trail was made possible thanks to the help of many volunteers, including groups from REI Framingham, EMS Northborough and the Rivers Givers from the Rivers School in Weston.

Tomorrow’s grand opening coincides with the the 20th anniversary of National Trails Day. To join the celebration, meet at the Sawink Farm Trailhead on Walker Street in Westborough (map) at 10:00 am. To register for the event, or for more information, visit the SVT website (www.sudburyvalleytrustees.org).
