Southborough police officers say thank you

Above: The Southborough commuter rail station was nearly empty of cars yesterday on what should have been a busy Friday

I don’t normally post on the weekend, but after all we’ve been through this week, this story posted on the Southborough Police Department Facebook page today needs to be shared. If this story doesn’t warm your heart, nothing will.

Yesterday we watched the combined efforts of law enforcement from all over the state; bring the two Boston Marathon terrorists to justice. We were also saddened to hear of the death of a brother officer, MIT Officer Sean Collier, who was killed by these two terrorists near the beginning of the manhunt. It was a lot for us all to go through and probably something that we’ll never forget.

And while these violent events were taking place in the cities of Boston and Watertown, a little 9 year-old girl (and her dad) walked into the Southborough police station with lunch for our police officers and firefighters. The little girl explained that the lunch was purchased with money from her allowance, and that she wanted to say “Thank you” for keeping everyone safe. To say that we were moved by her gesture would be an understatement. This act of kindness touched us all, and reminded us of why we do what we do. We thank her, as well as you all, for the proud honor and privilege of serving & protecting the Town of Southborough.

If I hadn’t shed enough tears this week, this filled the pail to overflowing….what a sweet thing for this little girl to do and what a huge reminder to us all to be ever so grateful to our police and fire departments for all they do. Thank you!!
