Scholarship announcements from Southborough Gardeners and Rotary Club

Two local organizations asked me to share news on recent awards they granted.

First, from Southborough Gardeners, two college scholarship winners:

The Southborough Gardeners are pleased to announce that Jillian Rizzitano and Nate Morrell are each recipients of $1000 scholarships for 2015. Jillian will be attending the University of Vermont Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources with a major in Environmental Science. Nate will be attending the University of Massachusetts Stockbridge School of Agriculture majoring in Arboriculture and Community Forest Management. We wish them well in their endeavors!

Earlier this spring, the Southborough Rotary Club announced a different kind of scholarship. Their awards to sophomores funds the students’ attendence at a leadership conference next month:

The Rotary Club of Southborough is pleased to announce the selection of four (4) Southborough students to attend this year’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Conference! The conference is to be held from June 26 – June 28, 2015 at Worcester State University in Worcester. This is 23rd Annual RYLA Conference offering outstanding high school sophomores an opportunity to live, work and interact together in an atmosphere of friendly competition. It will be a program designed to challenge the participants to utilize and improve their skills and accept the responsibilities of leadership. Best of all, there is no charge to the students for the program! The Rotary Club of Southborough is sponsoring all four (4) of the participants at this year’s conference. . .

participants were selected from young women and men who have exhibited leadership abilities and who will be entering their junior year of high school in the fall. Three are students at Algonquin Regional High School and one is a student at Saint Mark’s School. Aimed at developing the leadership potential of young men and women, the conference will feature many thought-provoking events including interactive Leadership Labs, exciting guest speakers, and challenging mental and physical activities that will provide the participants with a chance to excel amongst and with their peers. Topics will include decision-making, critical thinking, communicating effectively, ethics, and public service.
