Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday (Updated)

Southborough holds its annual parade and ceremony on the day of the holiday.

In honor of Veterans Day, the following institutions will be closed Friday, November 11th: Town offices, the Transfer Station, public schools, the Southborough Library, and the Senior Center.

As they do every year, Southborough officials will use the day to honor resident veterans (living and passed). The public is invited to take part in the Town’s official observances marking the day.

[Editor’s Note: Downtown construction work that could have made getting to the event more complicated has been postponed.]*

Following tradition, the Veterans Day ceremony is held at the All Wars Memorial on the Common. It is preceded by a parade from the the American Legion & VFW Post Headquarters (at the Community House, 27 Common Street).

The parade is comprised of veterans, representatives from the Board of Selectmen, and town scouts. (Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts are all invited to march.)

The parade participants begin gathering at 10:15 am. The procession starts at 10:45 am.

The community joins them at the Town Common for the ceremony beginning at 11:00 am to honor our country’s veterans and service members. (That’s the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.) The 30-40 minute event remembers our fallen and honors those who serve today and all those who have served our nation. It includes readings and patriotic music, gun salutes, and the playing of Taps.

*Updated (11/10/22 12:02 pm): Initially, I shared information about pavement milling the Town announced would be taking place downtown on Monday. That has been postponed to Tuesday.
