Apply by May 8th for Town Scholarships

Students in their senior year or current under grads can apply for scholarships administered by the Town, including those in memory of Carol Harris and Linda Hubley.

This week, the Scholarship Advisory Committee posted its application for three scholarship opportunities. They asked me to share the news.

Southborough residents who are currently enrolled in a “post-secondary undergraduate program” or are high school seniors planning to attend one next year, may apply for any or all of these awards:

  • The Southborough Town Scholarship, established in 1987, takes into consideration academics, financial need, extracurricular activities, work and volunteer experiences, as well as written expression.
  • The following scholarships use the same criteria as above but with an additional focus:
    • The Carroll Harris Memorial Scholarship, established in 1999 – the applicant must also have participated in gymnastics, plan to major in physical education, education or recreation, or have demonstrated active participation in a town recreation program.
    • The Linda Hubley Memorial Scholarship, established in 2022 –  the applicant must also demonstrate a commitment to their community through volunteerism, environmental protection and/or ongoing education in these areas. (Note: As I posted yesterday, the Town is currently raising more funds for this scholarship as part of Planet Palooza.)

The Town’s single application form can be used for one or more of the scholarships. Applications are available at the Southborough Town House and local High School guidance offices. A word document can also be downloaded from their Facebook page here. (I uploaded a pdf version of that here to read or print, but it isn’t in a fillable format.)

To be considered, applications (with all of the required supporting documents) must arrive at the Town House by 4:00 pm on Monday, May 8th. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

All of these scholarships are funded by donations. To support the scholarship funds, click here.
