Here are highlights of what’s happening around (or related to) our town this weekend through next weekend. I’m also including a few events from Northborough’s Applefest that have ties to our town through the high school and/or youth/sports groups.

  • Federal Holiday: No public school. The Southborough Library, Senior Center, and Town offices are closed.

Tuesday, September 5, 2023

  • Bridge (12:00 pm) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group, welcoming new participants. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • ARHS Musical Auditions Workshop (2:45 – 4:45 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School Auditorium: In preparation for Thursday’s auditions, students are invited to learn the music and dance portion of the school’s fall musical. Attendance is not required, but is highly recommended. Students can click here to sign up through their school google drive.
  • Cook Book Club (6:30 – 8:30 pm) @ Southborough Library main floor: Each month, participants are encouraged to pick a recipe to make from a selected cookbook. Bring the dish to share at a gathering at the Library. New participants encouraged and all ages and partners welcome. For details, see related post.
  • Geeks Who Drink Trivia Night (8:00 – 10:00 pm) @ Owen O’Leary’s, 50 Turnpike Rd: Weekly Trivia game night with prizes. For details, see dedicated post.

Wednesday, September 6, 2023

  • Walking Group for Seniors (8:30 am) @ Southborough cemetery, 11 Cordaville Road: Free weekly walking group organized by the Southborough Senior Center. Walkers generally go for an hour, but continue for as long as you wish. The location is a loop, so feel free to join late.
  • Finn School Principal’s Coffee (9:30 am) @ Finn School cafeteria: Meeting for parents of students in the school parents interested in learning about volunteering.
  • Southborough Rotary Club (7:00 – 8:00 pm) @ Southborough Library, main floor: Regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Southborough. New and prospective members are always welcome. (Held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays of the month.)

  • Mah Jongg (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: The weekly program would love new players to join. Feel free to stop by to watch or talk to one of the players to see if you would be interested. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • Preschool Farm Explorers (10:00 – 11:00 am) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: For ages 2 years 9 months to 5 years old, Adult supervision required. Pre-registration (and fee) required. (discount for younger siblings and free for siblings under 1.) Little farm explorers will become immersed in what life is like at Chestnut Hill. Each session has a different theme. (Offered weekly.)   • ARHS Musical Auditions (2:45 – 5:45 pm) @ Algonquin Regional High School Auditorium: Auditions for the school’s fall musical, The Addams Family.
  • CancelledMaple Syrup Talk (7:00 – 8:30 pm) @ Cordaville Hall, 9 Cordaville Road: [This program is cancelled.]* Learn the process for making your own syrup from identifying trees through bottling. The program is open to all with no registration required. The free talk is courtesy of the Southborough Open Land Foundation and the Southborough Library. For details, see dedicated post.

  • Woodward School Principal’s Coffee (9:30 am) @Woodward School cafeteria: Meeting for parents of students in the school parents interested in learning about volunteering.
  • Dull Men’s Club (10:00 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: Casual social club for senior men. New members are always welcome to drop in. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Canasta (11:15 am) @ Southborough Senior Center: A weekly card group. For details, contact the Senior Center at 508-229-4453.
  • NEF’s Applefest Gala (7:30 – 11:30 pm) @ Juniper Hills Golf Course Pavillion, 202 Brigham St., Northborough: Live music, dancing, and cocktails.   • Applefest Street Fair (10:00 am – 3:00 pm) @ Blake Street, Northborough: Crafts, Vendors, Local Businesses and Community Groups (including groups from Algonquin and Northborough-Southborough youth sports teams), Food and Music.   • A Perky Pairing (1:00 – 2:30 pm) @ Southborough Library: A free workshop on Coffee and Fine Chocolates. For details, see dedicated post.
  • Applefest BBQ, Fireworks, Concert and Family Fun (5:00 – 9:00 pm) @ Algonquin, 79 Bartlett Street, Northborough: ($20 parking per car).
