Programs for kids, guided nature hikes for all ages or adults, and summer camp

I’m sharing the upcoming events at Chestnut Hill Farm over the next two months.

All of these Chestnut Hill Farm events require pre-registration and include a fee. (Fees below are member/non-member. You can find membership details here.)

Events are organized below first by those for adults or all ages/families, followed by ones specifically for children (with or without parents).

Hiking & Nature Education for Adults/All Ages

Saturday, July 8th, 5:30 – 7:00 pm

This is a family-friendly program best suited for families with children ages 6 and up. Did you know that many of the winged or amphibian creatures we see begin their lives in the water of ponds and vernal pools? Join a Trustees Ranger to find things like dragonfly nymphs, tadpoles, salamander nymphs, and more. (Adult $20/$25, child $12/$15)

Finding Fungi from trustees websiteFinding Fungi Guided Mushroom Hike
All ages

Saturday, July 15th & August, 5:00 – 6:30 pm

At this fun and educational Finding Fungi Guided Mushroom Hunt we’ll review several methods beginners can use to identify and group similar fungi together, tips and tricks for locating mushrooms in seemingly barren forests and fields and learn how to connect with mycology wherever you live or travel. (Adult $20/$25, child $12/$15)

Hike with Goats at Chestnut Hill Farm
All ages

Goat hikes from TTOR websiteSaturdays and Sundays through October, 9:00 am, 10:00 am, and 11:00 am

Take a leisurely hike through Chestnut Hill Farm’s beautiful grounds and trails, accompanied by one or more of our friendly goats! Goats are naturally playful and curious creatures. They love to follow the leader and stick together, which makes them perfect hiking companions! Hiking with goats is a fun and unique way to spend some time in nature and make some cuddly goat friends at the same time. ($76/$96 per family)

Wild Medicinals Foraging Workshop
Adults only

Wild medicinals hike from trustees websiteSaturday, July 29th 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Learn to appreciate the medicinal and edible uses of plants, both those grown intentionally and those sprouting up in the wild of their own accord. In this leisurely walk at Chestnut Hill Farm, medicinal herbalist Alex Klein will share how to fucus on identifying wild food and medicine in the garden and in surrounding woodlands, as well as teach proper harvesting techniques. ($24/$30)

Field to Flower from trustees FacebookField to Flower: Harvesting, Cutting and Bouquet Making
Ages 13 and up

Thursday, July 13th & August 17th, 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Learn harvest techniques in our Pick-Your-Own flower garden and dive into the different elements of a bouquet, seasonal color palates, and how to make your bouquet last in the vase. You will be provided the tools and materials to harvest and bring home a 30 stem bouquet. ($40/$50)

All ages

Saturday, August 19th, 5:00 – 6:30 pm

As you walk the gentle loop, learn about the natural cycles of migration and metamorphosis in the Monarchs’ lives. Meet Monarch caterpillars and adult butterflies up close and examine the chrysalis where their amazing transformation takes place. Learn about efforts in the scientific community to protect this newly endangered species and actions your family can take. (Adult $20/$25, child $12/$15)

Programs for Children

Family Farm Yoga from trustees websiteFamily Farm Yoga
For children ages 4-8 participating with parents/guardians

Join us for Children’s Mindful Yoga Adventures. No experience is necessary. ($24/$30 per adult-child pair)

A Teddy Bear Picnic
Thursday, July 27th 6:00 – 7:00 pm

We’ll use our imaginations to go for a walk through the woods and have a Teddy Bear Picnic! Please bring a teddy bear to class.

A Trip to the Farm
Thursday, August 10th 6:00 – 7:00 pm

We’ll soak up the last days of summer and celebrate a day at the farm!

CHF camp (contributed)Chestnut Hill Farm Camp
For children ages 5-10

June 26th – August 18th, weeklong camps on weekdays 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Authentic farm chores provide our daily structure. We will feed and care for the goats and sheep. We will seed, plant, water, weed, and harvest vegetables, flowers, and herbs from our learning garden. . . Each week will include opportunities for nature play, including tree climbing and shelter building. Through observation and exploration, we will witness the amazing life in the unique habitats of the forests and fields. Ultimately, campers will find a place in the natural world that they can call their own. ($450/$550 per week)
