GonkStage announces a murder — Thurs & Fri (Updated)

Over 50 years since her last published novel, Agatha Christie’s whodunits continue to inspire movies and plays. This week, Algonquin’s GonkStage players are getting in the act.

ARHS students will be adapting* the mystery “A Murder is Announced”.

The spring drama takes place in the school’s smaller venue, the Black Box Theater. Shows are open to the public (for $5 per ticket) this Thursday and Friday evening, March 14 & 15, at 7:00 pm.

The play is based on a Miss Marple novel, adapted to the stage by Leslie Darbon. The GonkStage players are adapting it even further.* The school promotes:

The residents of Little Paddocks, a home in Chipping leghorn England, have just seen a strange notice in the local gazette announcing a murder to take place in their home at 6:30 PM. But is it a joke? Is someone really going to be murdered? If so, who? And who is the murderer? Join our little murder mystery party and see if you can solve the crime.

*Updated (3/15/24 3:26 pm): I attended the Thursday night performance and discovered that the description “Join our little murder mystery party and see if you can solve the crime” was literal.

Rather than performing the play, it is set up as if the cast is attending a party where they are all assigned parts to play in the mystery.
