This Saturday, residents can again hear talented members of Southborough’s middle school jazz band on the radio.

It’s a prelude to their annual big concert the band is hoping the community will turn out to enjoy in one week — featuring a dynamic up-and-coming jazz trumpeter and composer from New York.

On Thursday, June 6th, the Trottier Big Band will perform with special guest artist Summer Camargo.

A press release promotes:

The Trottier Big Band has worked hard all year and will perform an entire evening of jazz songs that showcase their talents. The Trottier Big Band has been a Gold Medal Recipient from 2008-2019 and 2022-2024 from the Massachusetts Association of Jazz Educators and 9-time winners at the Clark Terry/UNH Jazz Festival.

They will be accompanied by Camargo, a member of the Saturday Night Live House Band since 2022. This spring, she released a new album “To Whom I Love” and was featured last fall on NPR as one of five artists under 30 “infusing new energy into today’s jazz scene”.

The concert will take place in the Trottier Middle School auditorium (49 Parkerville Road) at 7:00 pm.

Admission is free, but they will be collecting voluntary donations. Funds collected (and raised through the bake sale during intermission) will be used to support their rising bus transportation costs and new music equipment.

To preview the band, you can listen to WICN host Howard Caplan’s “The Saturday Swing Session” this Saturday, June 1st on 90.5 FM. The band will be featured sometime between 11:00 am and noon. So, tune in. Or, if radio is too archaic for you, you can stream the show via WICN.org.
