Obituary: Thomas McHugh, 83

Thomas McHugh, 83, of Southborough, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Married to his beloved wife, Sally McHugh, for 56 years, Thomas was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Born on August 8, 1942, to John and Agnes McHugh, he was raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, and later made his home in Southborough. Thomas was predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Joseph McHugh, James McHugh, and Anna O’Donnell; and several beloved brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nephews.

Tom was a dedicated employee for more than twenty-five years at Lawrence Stationery before transitioning into a career as a drug and alcohol counselor. A friend of Bill’s for 43 years, few things gave him greater pride than being part of his sober community and helping others along the road to recovery.

Tom earned his nickname “Flash” by capturing countless photos and videos of family celebrations, holidays, and his grandchildren’s sporting events and concerts. He took great pleasure in sharing the memories he captured with friends and family which has truly been a gift many of us cherish.

Tom will also be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor and his love of making others laugh. Even during recent significant health challenges, he continued to tell jokes and put a smile on the face of his family and friends.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Sally McHugh of Southborough; his son, Thomas McHugh, and daughter-in-law, Andrea McHugh, along with grandchildren Makayla and Luke; and his daughter, Amy Edlemon, and son-in-law, Kerry Edlemon, along with grandchildren Clarabel and Francis. He is also survived by his siblings Mary Healy, Marguerite Cioffi, Michael and Peggy McHugh, and Agnes and Paul Marino, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Family and faith were the cornerstones of Tom’s life. He greeted each day with a grateful heart and remained deeply committed to supporting his family and the community he loved.

Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, May 17, from 3:00 -5:00 PM at the Morris-Johnston Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough, MA 01772. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 18, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew Parish, 26 Highland Street, Southborough, MA, 01772.

A private interment will take place at a later date.
