Friends, volunteers, clients, and community members gathered to celebrate the retirement of a longtime volunteer and Pantry Coordinator

After many years of supporting and helping to run the Southborough Food Pantry, volunteer Marjorie Coldwell has retired. The United Parishes of Southborough shared news about the recent celebration they held to mark the occasion.

While I’m sharing that news, I’ll also share the pantry’s most recent public request for support. (Scroll down for that.)

Here is the Food Pantry’s announcement:

(contributed photo)After more than 25 years of service, Marjorie Coldwell has retired from the Southborough Food Pantry. A wonderful group of friends, fellow volunteers, clients, and community members turned out on April 26th to celebrate her at a retirement party in her honor. Over the years, Marge wore many hats within the organization, always stepping up to do whatever was needed β€” serving as Pantry Coordinator for Pilgrim Church, Treasurer, and Volunteer Trainer, among other roles.

She also contributed to many aspects of the pantry’s outreach and operations. Some of the largest marks she left include coordinating “Scouting for Food,” the pantry’s largest annual food drive, with her daughter, Laura, for many years. She was also pivotal in keeping the pantry running during the COVID-19 pandemic by reworking the food distribution process to keep clients and volunteers safe.

The celebration was made even more special when Marge was presented with a proclamation from the Southborough Select Board honoring her service. The proclamation called on all Southborough residents to join in celebrating Marjorie for her compassion, service, and dedication to improving the lives of others.

The party also included a tribute from Barbara Jandrue, the pantry’s original Director, read on her behalf by volunteer Karen White, praising Marge’s dedication and hard work over the years. The Southborough Food Pantry wishes Marjorie Coldwell all the best in her retirement.

The Southborough Food Pantry is run by the United Parishes of Southborough, Inc. β€” a collaboration of five churches in town: Pilgrim Church, St. Mark’s Church, St. Anne Church, First Community Church, and St. Matthew Church.

While Coldwell has stepped down, other volunteers are continuing to run it. And it’s worth noting an announcement posted to their Facebook page on the same day as the retirement celebration:
