The Mass Dept of Conservation and Recreation is continuing to team up with the Southborough Library to teach school aged kids about the importance of conservation for protecting the community’s water supply.
I recently wrote about their ongoing monthly nature story times for kids ages 3-6. The agency is also scheduled to hold three more of its monthly interactive programs for older children, ages 6-10 year old this fall.
Registration is required for each. All of the sessions are scheduled to run from 4:30 – 5:30 pm on the following weekday afternoons:
Young Birders — Thursday, September 24
Curious about birds” Discover birding basics like identification, behaviors, and observation. Birds are often heard before they are seen. Develop your birding skills by matching common birds by their songs and calls. (Click here to register)
Watershed Forests: Name that Tree! — Thursday, October 15
Find out how local trees keep our water clean and healthy. Fall is a perfect time to practice your observation skills. Identify different species of trees using real leaves and bark samples. (Click here to register)
Plant a Terrarium — Thursday, November 12
Make a miniature model of the Earth in a terrarium to see how the water cycle works. A terrarium is a miniature self-sustaining garden enclosed in a jar. Come create your own! (Click here to register)
