I don’t share news of most neighboring town’s activities, but I make an exception for Northborough’s big annual community festival — Applefest. A lot of Algonquin and Boroughs organizations and teams have ties to the events.
Applefest combines Northborough’s version of Southborough’s Summer Nights and Heritage Day, and beyond. Just about every community organization in their town takes part.
The four day festival is promoted as opening a week from Thursday, But one of the annual activities is actually taking place a week early.
This Friday, September 18th, Northborough Education Foundation will hold its Applefest Gala. The fundraiser supports NEF grants for Algonquin Regional High School in addition to Northborough K-8 schools. That’s 7:30 – 11:00 PM at Juniper Hills Golf Course Pavillion:
Enjoy an evening of delicious hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and an unforgettable night of dancing with the incredible Disco Lemonade. Whether you’re catching up with neighbors, celebrating with friends, or simply looking for a fun night out, the Applefest Gala is the perfect way to kick off the fall season. . .

The core festival runs September 24-27. The website promotes the main attraction as the Saturday night BBQ, September 26th, 5:00 – 9:00 pm on Algonquin Regional’s athletic fields. The event features inflatables, food trucks, live music and more – capped off by fireworks. ARHS’ Robotics team will also let kids try out some of their fun devices. (Activities are free, but there is a $20 parking fee.)
Another event with links to Southborough is the Applefest Street Fair earlier in the day. Northborough Rotary host the fair downtown on Blake Street, Saturday from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm. That’s the event where community and school organizations have tables/booths to promote themselves/causes or to raise funds.
Many school, youth sports, and community groups also take part in the Applefest Parade. That’s scheduled to march from Lincoln Street to Main Street (continuing past the street fair to Northborough Historical Society’s location at 52 Main Street). That steps off at noon on Saturday, September 26th. (For a few years it had been shifted to Sundays. Last year it was moved back to Saturday by popular demand.)
