The New England Rugby Club is again recruiting Southborough K-8 players for summer Rugby now through July. The program for Boys and Girls asked me to help them make a special push to recruit female players.
The regional program which holds currently holds practices in our town took the Southborough Eagles Rugby program under its wing in 2021. The program continues to act as a “feeder” to the high school teams at Algonquin and other local high schools.
Their email and website promotes opportunities for grades K-12 (despite a flyer specifying grades 3-12).
While the team’s home games are in Hopkinton, the Tuesday and Thursday evening practices will be held on fields in town. I was originally told at Neary School starting yesterday. But I’ve been updated that Neary field use is delayed.
They will hold open tryouts at the Trottier fields behind the track (49 Parkerville Road) on June 5th, 10th, and 12th. (The times are the same as the practice times listed at the end of the post.)
The weekly Sunday games won’t kick off until June 22nd. The final Championships are on July 26th.
NERC offers a Flag Rugby program for grades K-6. Their Tackle programs are co-ed for middle schoolers and broken into Boys and Girls teams for high schoolers.
They asked me to share:
Whether you played, or are just interested in learning, the Rugby season can continue with the New England rugby Club, NERC. if you ready to take on summer 7’sit is just 7 players per side playing every position, handling the ball , and trying to earn a try in a 7 minute half.
Summer rugby is a great development program to improve your skills, learn to play, and have a whole lot of fun!
Bring your friends, younger siblings, friends, and neighbors playing, whether they have already played, or just want to give it a “try”.
Practices for players in grades K-8 will be held from 6:00 – 7:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The high school players’ practices will overlap, running from 6:45 – 8:15 pm.
