Obituary: Charley W. Johnson, 89

Charles (Charley) W. Johnson passed away on September 11, 2025 in Marco Island, Florida at the age of 89 years old after a courageous battle against Cancer.

Charley was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts in 1936 and grew up in Southborough, Massachusetts on the family dairy farm. He graduated from University of Massachusetts – Amherst (Stockbridge) in 1956 with an Associate’s Degree and also earned a Bachelor’s Degree in 1968 from the University of Maine (Orono). Charley enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1956 and after his enlistment he began working for the US Government in Milk Marketing. He gave 35 years of faithful service receiving several awards during that time – including a Superior Service award in 1966 for saving a farmer’s life from a fire – and retired in 1992 to Marco Island, Florida. Besides his time in government service, Charley also held positions in the Town of Southborough for many years as an assessor and later was a President’s Circle Realtor in Marco Island after his retirement from Government service.

Charley is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years Dorothy. He is also survived by his three children; Mark Johnson (and his wife Amy), Lynn Bissell (and her husband Brian), and Brian Johnson (and his wife Ellen) as well as six grandchildren; Amanda, Benjamin (and his wife Gabriela), Cerena (and her husband Clayton), Nicholas, Jessica (and her husband Zachary), Brett and step grand-daughter Laura and two great grandchildren; Louis and Eloise. He is additionally survived by his two siblings; James (and his wife Linda) and Richard (and his wife Diane).

Charley was a proud Veteran, a hard worker, a loving family man and enjoyed celebrating many happy occasions with family and friends over his long and full life.

A private graveside service will be held in Sarasota, Florida in October and a Celebration of Life in December. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charley’s honor may be made to a charity of your choice.
