As we enter the dark, cold season of winter, Southborough Youth & Family Services is seeking to encourage the community to care for itself (and others).
Next week, the agency is offering a session to promote “Mindfulness”. And the following week, a “Shelf Help” will explore “themes of gratitude, kindness, and human connection”. The “Why Mindfulness?” Program will be held at the Southborough Library on Tuesday, November 18th from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.
Mindfulness is a critical element of self-care and mental health- but why?
Understand the importance of mindfulness practices, the science behind it, and how to integrate it into your daily life.

The November Shelf Help meeting will also take place on a Tuesday from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. But while the series is in partnership with the library, this month’s session will be held over zoom. The central book for November is , A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. (It’s a novel that was turned into a popular Swedish film by the same name and an American version titled “A Man Called Otto”.)
The meeting is on November 25th, but sign up sooner to start getting access to the other materials (plus help getting your hands on a copy of the novel.)
SYFS promotes:
Join us for the November meeting of Shelf Help, a monthly group where we explore mental health and emotional well-being through books, articles, podcasts, videos, and open conversation.
This month, we’ll be discussing A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. This heartfelt novel explores themes of gratitude, kindness, and human connection through the story of a curmudgeonly man whose life changes when unexpected relationships bring new meaning and hope.
November is a time to reflect on thankfulness and the power of community. We hope this discussion inspires appreciation and deeper connection during the season.
All are welcome to join this conversation, which will take place on Zoom.
No prior reading is required. In the weeks leading up to the event, we’ll share related resources—including articles, podcasts, and videos—to enrich the discussion.
