Obituary: Malcolm “Mac” W. Foster, Jr., 79

Malcolm W. Foster, Jr., 79, of Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, formerly of Southborough, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved son of the late Malcolm W. Foster, Sr. and Nistoss (Assaf) Foster. Malcolm, known to many as “Mac,” was the devoted husband of Jean Marie (Cahalane) Foster. High school sweethearts, they shared 55 wonderful years of marriage and a deep, abiding bond as soulmates. He was predeceased by his brother, David Foster.

Mac grew up in Milton, Massachusetts. He earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College, a masters in Mathematics from the University of Maryland, and an MBA from Babson College. Mac believed deeply that hard work leads to meaningful results, and he lived each day with determination and purpose. Grounded in his faith, he showed humility and generosity, serving others without hesitation. A devout Catholic and a Marine, he led his family with love, strength, and steadfast faith.

Mac dedicated many years to the defense industry, traveling the world and spending time in countless countries along the way. Though he truly loved his work, being with his family was always his greatest priority. Mac enjoyed golf, tennis, breakfast outings, and spending time outdoors in Waterville Valley with his loyal canine companion, Yote. He could often be found at the Coyote Bar, enjoying time with family and friends—never without a Crown Royal in his hand and Jean by his side.

In addition to his wife Jean, Mac is survived by his loving children: Mark Foster of Bellingham; Carolyn Denisi of Bellingham; Michael Foster and his wife Meta of Boylston; and Courtney Foster of Waterville Valley. He is also survived by his brother, James Foster of West Yarmouth, his cherished grandchildren—Lexi, Tori, Jackson, Gigi, Lucas, D.J., Mason, and Delaney—and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and extended family who were blessed to be part of his life.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Morris-Johnston Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough, MA 01772. A Funeral Mass and graveside service will be celebrated in Waterville Valley in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Malcolm’s memory may be made to the ASPCA or to the Massachusetts General Hospital Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center Fund.
