Here are my highlights from Algonquin varsity sports competitions last week and the schedule for this week.
Boys Basketball fell two slots to #35 in MIAA’s Division 1 Power Rankings. That was after losing to Shrewsbury 57-55 on Tuesday, but before beating Wachusett 57-50 on Friday. Their record is now 8-4.
Girls Basketball remained at #20 for D1. The Girls team had the opposite results from the Boys last week. They beat Shrewsbury 39-36, but lost 62-26 to Wachusett after the rankings were updated. Photographer Jeff Slovin posted highlights from Gonk Girls’ win on Instagram:

Boys Hockey’s record is now 5-6-1. They are still ranked #25 for Division 2. That was prior to their win on Saturday, 5-3 over Auburn.
Undefeated Girls Hockey is still #1 for D1 with 13 wins under their belt. The latest was 3-2 over Pope Francis Prep on Friday.
ARHS Boys & Girls Swimming teams are still on their own long undefeated streaks. The teams compete with Doherty (a Worcester high school) on Friday. The Telegram posted the results as a co-ed competition with Algonquin winning 92-60 over the Worcester team that apparently hasn’t won a meet yet this season. The Telegram’s recap included a credit to senior Ben Zhao for winning both the 100 meter butterfly and 100 meter breaststroke.
Boys & Girls Indoor Track & Field Teams again competed in a Central Mass tourney on Wednesday with no posted results. And they again sent athletes to an MSTCA (Mass State Track Coaches Assoc.) event in Boston. This one was the Coaches Invitational. In Saturday’s event, the highest ranking Titans results were Tanvi Mehta finishing 7th in the Women’s 600 Meters race and Niamh O’Sullivan and Charlotte Lipka in a 4-way tie for 9th place in the Women’s High Jump.
This Sunday, the teams will compete in their League Championships.
On Saturday, Boys Wrestling competed at Milford with three other schools. ARHS was listed as winning only one match out of 11 against the host. Results weren’t posted for bouts with the other teams.
I couldn’t find posted results from Girls Gymnastics’ competition on Friday at Shrewsbury with North Middlesex and Westborough. They have another meet scheduled for Westborough this week before they compete in the League Championships next week.
It’s hard to find any info on the ARHS Ski teams, but MetroWest Daily News reported that Algonquin’s Tommy Barna placed third at the CMass Ski League’s Alpine Race last Thursday. And the Telegram shared some photo highlights from the race (the third meet of the season).
Although ARHS Athletics doesn’t post their schedule, I’m gathering the team is competing on Thursday afternoons at Ski Ward most weeks.
Here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for this week1:
