The Southborough Library is bringing back Blackstone Valley Veggie Gardens for another gardening workshop a week from Saturday. This time the focus is on “how to garden sustainably”.

The program is appropriate for teens and adults.

The talk will take place on the Library’s main floor on April 4th, 11:00 am –12:00 pm. Thanks to funding by The Friends of the Southborough Library, event is free and open to the public, with no registration required.

Sustainable Gardening workshop flyerBVVG’s gardening expert Kate Donovan will explain:

how to elongate our growing season and maximize our output, all while preserving resources.

Attending in person will provide gardeners the opportunity to ask questions.

But if you miss the talk, you will get a chance to watch in on YouTube/local cable access in the future. Southborough Access Media will be recording it..

The library is touting the gardening talk as part of its contribution to the “One Book One Borough” joint initiative in partnership with Marlborough Public Library, Northborough Free Library, and Westborough Public Library.

promote reading and community connection throughout the neighboring boroughs of Central Massachusetts.

This year we chose to read The Spellshop by Sarah Beth Durst and will be hosting numerous programs around the themes of neighborliness and self-exploration through new hobbies and crafts.

You may wonder what a magical fantasy book has to do with nature programs. Apparently, the main character uses spells to revive sick and dying plants.

Southborough’s contribution to the regional event series also includes ecology related youth and YA programs (Nature Story Times and Teen Library Team events), the Seed Exchange

Tapping into the more generic theme of “new hobbies”, the event list also includes tonight’s Adult Game Night.

You can check out the full list, with events in neighboring communities, here.
