I’m sharing the list of the next slate of virtual author talks offered to Southborough residents through the Southborough Library.
The ongoing series offers 2-3 live events per month. Usually, most are targeted to adults. But this time, half of the eight upcoming talks feature authors of children’s or young adult books.
The series features:
bestselling, award-winning, and highly acclaimed authors from around the world. The featured writers and thought leaders will cover a wide range of fiction and nonfiction genres. . .
When you register to join the live zoom, you can also pre-submit questions for the Q&A. As with all library events, participation is free to the public. Anyone can take advantage of the opportunity, but registration is required for the live talks.
If you can’t make the live event, the library’s subscription allows patrons to view the recording later. Each talk is added to the existing library of streaming videos available through the library’s website.
Any Southborough resident with a Southborough Library card can register to join the free live talks. Here’s what’s on tap for the next few months:
The Comeback Conversation: Shifting from Surviving to Thriving with Yasmine Cheyenne
Thursday, September 17th at 2:00 – 3:00 pm
The TEDx Speaker’s latest book is The Comeback Era: From Limiting Beliefs to Living Without Limits. Her premise is to reconnect with “‘Little You’—the person you were before the world told you who to be”. In the book she gives examples of people who successfully stopped performing for others and started living for themselves.

Picture Book Author — Where the Paletero Man Goes: A Journey of Neighborhood, Music, and Art with Lucky Diaz
The recommended age for readers is PK-2nd Grade
Thursday, September 24th at 7:00 – 7:45 pm (plus a Spanish version at 8:00 pm)
The talks feature Latin GRAMMY-winning musician Lucky Diaz, author of “the sensational bilingual picture book, Paletero Man.”
The book is described as “Inspired by the vibrant rhythms of Los Angeles and Diaz’s own hit song, this beautiful story invites readers into a sun-drenched neighborhood where the ring of a bell means the best treat of the day is just around the corner.”

Young Adult Author event: Courage, Choice, and What Comes Next with Dystopian Icon Veronica Roth
Thursday, October 1st at 7:00 – 8:00 pm
The author of the bestselling YA Divergent book series (that spawned the movie series) is coming out with a diverging vision of the characters in an alternate universe where events unfold differently. She’ll talk about her forthcoming novel The Sixth Faction.

Young Adult Author event: Ghosts, Grief, and Growing Up: YA Storytelling with Cherie Dimaline
Thursday, October 22nd at 7:00 – 8:00 pm
The author will talk about her YA novel, Funeral Songs for Dying Girls. It’s the story of “a teen whose attempt to save her father’s job leads to a fake ghost rumor—and accidentally summons a very real, opinionated spirit”. She’ll also discuss her prior YA and adult novels.

Liberated Love: Rewiring Your Heart for Authentic Connection with Mark Groves
Tuesday, October 27th at 2:00 – 3:00 pm
The relationship expert will discuss his book Liberated Love: How to Release Codependency, Reduce Conflict, and Create Extraordinary Relationships. The book offers ” a practical, compassionate roadmap for dismantling codependent habits, establishing rock-solid boundaries, and stepping into true relational freedom.”

Reclaiming Your Inner Wisdom: Sacred Indigenous Teachings with Asha Frost

Young Adult Author: Secrets, Lies, and Unforgettable Twists: A Conversation with E. Lockhart
Thursday, November 5th at 7:00 – 8:00 pm
The YA novelist will talk about her past works, including the Liars novel series and offer “an exclusive sneak peek into her shimmering new thriller, The Pools.”

Epic Worlds and Celestial Prophecies: Exploring the Between Earth and Sky Trilogy with Rebecca Roanhorse
Thursday, November 19th at 7:00 – 8:00 pm
She’ll talk about her Between Earth and Sky trilogy set in “a sprawling world of celestial magic, political intrigue, and ancient prophecies”. The books are “are inspired by the rich and diverse cultures of the pre-Columbian Americas, reshaping modern speculative fiction with unmissable worldbuilding.”
