I’m reminding readers that the Saturday before Halloween is essentially early Halloween in Southborough. Two different annual collaborations feature free, costumed celebrations for families with kids.
In the morning, families with young children can enjoy the party put on by the Southborough Library and Fay School. And in the afternoon, all families with children are invited to take part in the Town’s Trunk or Treat.
No registration is required to participate in either event.
Library Halloween Party at Fay
October 24, 10:00 am – noon (at Fay School’s Quad)
For years now, the private school has hosted and co-sponsored the Library’s annual Halloween Party, complete with a costume parade and story time.
The event is open to the public and is designed for children 8 and under. (Parents/guardians must accompany their children at all times during the event.)
Drop-in for Halloween themed games and crafts from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. There are also special free events scheduled within the party that you may want to time your visit for:
- 10:15 Halloween storytime with Ms. Kim from the Library
- 10:45 Costume Parade (with candy!)
- 11:15 Halloween Concert (Featuring children’s musician Lindsay Munroe)
Below are some cute parade pics that Fay shared on Instagram after the 2022 party:

Trunk or Treat
October 24, 3:00 – 6:00 pm (in the Woodward School parking lot and Southborough Public Safety Building)
The community is invited to take part in the 5th annual Trunk or Treat — the free Halloween festivities put on by the Southborough Firefighters Association and Southborough Recreation . (Leading up to the event, Southborough Rec is seeking donations of candy to pass out.)
Costumed families are encouraged to gather outside of Woodward School (28 Cordaville Road). At 3:00 pm, they’ll march to SFA’s annual Halloween party in their station garage (in the Public Safety Building).
As usual, the firefighters will be giving out treats and judging winners of their costume contest. (Some families really get into this with themed family getups.)
Immediately following the party at the station, partygoers can head back over to the Woodward parking lot for the actual Trunk or Treat portion of the event.
There, Rec and other Town departments and local organizations will have car trunks/vehicles decorated like parade floats. Volunteers (some in costume) will pass out candy to the trick or treaters.
While the sugar rush will have some kids just focused on the candy being doled out — Some of the groups go all out with group costumes, booth areas, tents/buses, and interactive ways to make the trunk or treating especially fun.
If you want to support the event, you can contribute items to give away. Southborough Rec posted the following request on Facebook earlier this month:
Southborough’s Trunk or Treat is Coming Soon, and we need LOADS OF CANDY 🍬🍫
And that’s where you come in. We need YOU, our WONDERFUL Southborough residents, to help make this year’s Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 24th spook-tacular! 🎃👻
We’re looking for donations of bags of candy or fun giveaways to keep the trick-or-treaters thrilled all evening.
We’re accepting donations.
Drop off or ship donations to: Recreation Department, 21 Highland Street, Southborough, MA 01772
Thank you for your generosity and for helping us create another amazing Trunk or Treat!
