Reminder: Earth Day Clean Up on Saturday

Flowers

Don’t forget about the 19th Annual Earth Day Clean Up scheduled for Saturday from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. Here’s some information from the event flyer:

To adopt a favorite part of town, please call Southborough’s Department of Public Works at 485-1210 or visit their location next to the Southborough Transfer Station that morning to sign up and pick up trash bags. Please bring work gloves. Coffee and pastries will be served beginning at 8:00 AM. T-shirts will be distributed on a first come basis.

Stop by the Town Gazebo after the clean up for pizza, soda and ice cream. Free Saplings will be distributed at the gazebo too!

The rain date is Sunday.

Once again, Earth Day is just too late. The poison ivy is out. Fortunately I completed a lot between Graystone Road and the top of Pine Hill Road before now and sent it out with the regular garbage. Upper Pine Hill Road is wooded and some motorists delight in hurling their garbage from their cars as they drive by. Right now, the woods are impenetrable because of the PI.

Neil –

I hear you loud and clear.

Last year for Earth Day, I did Lynnbrook Lane, Lovers Lane, and a rural stretch of road that runs from Rt 30 to 495 (past the Beal property)

Good God. We ended up with 35 PACKED bags of garbage, including a tractor engine piston, broken “boom box” , discarded love seat, 140 feet of corroded coaxial cable, 100 or so empty bottled water containers, a few dozen energy drink cans, 90 or so 1/5th liter bottles of Vodka, an electric hot plate, meal clamshells from food takeout, and probably 400 – 500 beer cans ( Bud Light and Busch Lite – just so drivers can maintain their physique while DUI ;-)
