Last week, I wrote about Curtain Up’s plans for bringing Shrek the musical to Southborough this week.
Unfortunately, I forgot to also include it in my Events of the Week listings! So, I’m highlighting the local, adult community theater group’s funny “twisted fairy tale” again. Plus, I’m sharing fantastic pics of the cast in action.
This week, the troupe posted fantastic pictures from dress rehearsals:
The family-friendly musical is based on a hit comedy, animated film and sequels about a snarky ogre, a wisecracking donkey, an unusual princess, and a score of fairy tale characters.
The play is being performed in the auditorium at Trottier Middle School. Although it is on the school stage, this isn’t the “Jr” script version that has been put there in past years.
Curtain Up is using the Broadway script and a community theater cast comprised of adults 18+. (The play is also longer than the Jr version, with a script that runs over 2 hours.)
- tonight, Friday, November 6th at 7:30 pm
- Saturday, November 7th at 1:00 pm
- Sunday, November 8th at 1:00 pm
Tickets cost $30 per adult, $20 per senior, and $15 per child. They can be purchased on their website here.
Curtain up promotes:
Get ready for a hilariously twisted fairy tale where ogres are heroes, princesses have secrets, and being different might be the greatest happily-ever-after of all. Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film, this high-energy adventure is filled with unforgettable characters and ogre-size heart.
For those not familiar with the plot — It’s about an ogre (Shrek) who enjoys a secluded life that is suddenly turned upside down when his quiet swamp is overrun by fairy tale creatures. The creatures are refugees from the nearby fiefdom they were banished from by Lord Farquaad.
Lord Farquaad promises to resolve Shrek’s problem if the ogre rescues and fetches Princess Fiona, who Farquaad plans to marry. A pushy, but affable, talking donkey insists on accompanying him on the journey.
More info about the musical, and the theater group, can also be found here.
