Wastewater Study Committee formed to support economic development

There's still one vacancy on the new committee seeking people with experience in areas including public finance, wastewater treatment, construction, sanitation, and/or soils

Last month, the Select Board approved an ad hoc committee to focus on one of the issues hampering development of properties along Route 9 in Southborough. Despite learning that the zoning bylaws for mixed-use in the Downtown District are less restrictive than he had been told, the developer for a building at 2 East Main Street won’t pursue that use. Industrial Park update: EMC sold off another property; IP Zoning changes pushed to fall

Sign up for March RAP (Updated)

Registration is open for Southborough Recreation’s 2nd session of this school year’s RAP (Recreation After-School Programs) classes. Some programs have already filled up, and registration closes a week from today.

Downtown District’s mixed-use zoning: Code confusion, interpretation issues, and viability criticism

A project at 2 E Main St puts a spotlight on issues around the mixed-use zoning, including an apparent mistake in the Town Code.

Special Town Meeting voted to create a bylaw for mixed residential and commercial use buildings zoning downtown. Years later, the first project publicly proposed to make use of the new zoning ran into obstacles that highlight some issues. (The Building Commissioner has apparently interpreted the language differently than it was pitched to voters. And I discovered that the bylaw printed in the online Town Code isn’t the version that voters passed.)
