The day President Obama visited Southborough

Well, maybe not visited exactly, but reports are President Obama drove through our little corner of the world this evening on his way to tour flood damage elsewhere in the state.

The Metrowest Daily News reports Obama landed via helicopter at Marlborough Airport at around 5:15 pm. Southborough photographer Lisa Tommaney happened to be driving by and got a couple photos of the scene from her iPhone. Click any thumbnail to enlarge and view as a slideshow.

Obama’s motorcade then headed down Farm Road in the direction of Southborough. I don’t know what path they took exactly, but a couple readers reported seeing the motorcade in Southborough. At about 6:45 pm, the folks at Tomasso Trattoria sent out this tweet:

Obama’s first stop was to meet with officials in Framingham, so maybe they came down Route 85 to Route 9? Anyone else catch a glimpse of the motorcade as it passed through Southborough?

The motorcade came down 85. It passed St. Mark’s School while all of the students were outside on the fields at sports practice. The students stopped mid practice to try and get a look at Obama and wave to him…and he waved back.

This working mom of 3 was held up 20 feet from the 85 exit ramp….at 5:15 I had 15 minutes to make day care pick up…. Only Obama would choose rush hour to hold up the working Americans who are supporting the illegal folks and the entitlement dependents. Will his new plan pay my late charges?

I grew up in the Washington D.C. area. Motorcades happen when they happen, any time, any place, for ANY president, and they have to stop traffic for obvious security reasons. And it’s not just presidents – visiting heads of state, cabinet officials, anyone who gets a secret service escort. It’s fine if you don’t agree with President Obama’s politics, but to get angry at his motorcade is just plain silly. It could just as well have been a traffic accident or some other event causing traffic delays. These things happen.

For the record, I am also a working mom who was held up in traffic when the motorcade passed me on the Pike.

I remember the time I parked my car in a legal spot in Boston, only to return at the end of a very, very long work day to find that my car had been towed because President W. Bush came in for a last minute arrival and all the streets had to be immediately cleared of all of the cars that had been otherwise legally parked there. So in the sleety rain, I had to drag my very pregnant self from Northeastern area to East Boston to retrieve my car that had been broken into and dented to be towed, had to pay $90, had to pay my day care provider 2+ hours of overtime. Yet it never occurred to me to think that only that a-hole W would do such a thing to me. I assumed it was for the security of the President. Shame on you, Amy.

I’m not a fan of President Obama, but Sue and Kelly are right – it’s ridiculous to get upset about something like this. Not sure how old your kids are, A Mohn, but I hope you took the opportunity to explain that the president is the leader of not just the U/S. but the free world, and that even if we disagree with his policies we respect the office.

For the record… I worked for the Dept of Defense for 8 yrs and my husband served our country for almost a decade as a Ranger and a Green Beret! We actually do understand Natl. Security and the logistics involved. Perhaps being a civilian working Mother of 3 has changed my perspective but… Seriously? Sue.. For whom I have such admiration as a vocal activist… Do you only value free speech when it agrees with you?

Free speech is not immune from criticism. That’s the whole point of it.
