Postseason update: End of the road for Algonquin and Assabet hockey teams

They had a good run, but both the Algonquin girls and Assabet boys hockey teams lost their postseason matches this week. The Algonquin girls fell to Acton-Boxborough in the Central Division 1 quarter-finals last night by a score of 8-2. The Assabet boys lost to Groton-Dunstable by a score of 5-1 in the Central Division 3A semi-finals on Wednesday.

The hockey teams may be out, but the Algonquin girls basketball team is still in the hunt for their first-ever Central Division 1 championship title. They play Shrewsbury in the finals on Saturday at 7:00 pm at Fitchburg State.

The Algonquin girls gymnastics team captured their state title earlier this month, and this weekend they’ll compete at the New England Regional Championships at Jon Law High School in Milford, Connecticut. You can read more in this profile of the team by TheDailyNorthborough.com.
