For the second year in a row, Halloween trick-or-treating was at risk thanks to a major weather event (last year Snowtober, this year Frankenstorm). But unlike last year, Southborough officials have decided not to postpone tonight’s Halloween celebration.

Most Southborough residents are getting back into their routines today. Schools are open, most roads are open, and power is back to many who had been without. For others, the power waiting game continues, and may for several more days.

Superintendent Charles Gobron said this evening power has not been restored to all Southborough K-8 schools, but the district is hopeful National Grid will be able to restore service tonight.

Rooney: National Grid understaffed for storm response; Halloween will not be canceled

In a statement released just a short time ago, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen John Rooney said National Grid is still assessing damage for many of those who remain without power tonight. While Rooney commended National Grid for improvements made after storms a year ago, he said the utility appears to be suffering from “an utter lack of manpower” in its response to Hurricane Sandy.

Southborough is cleaning up in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. National Grid reports 950 customers are still without power in town, and a number of roads remain closed to traffic, including the main thoroughfare that is Framingham Road.

A Worcester teen was arrested on Saturday night after a knife fight at a home on Constitution Drive left two with non-life-threatening stab wounds. Turns out the teen is the son of a candidate running for state representative in Worcester.

Yesterday was a wild one in Southborough as Hurricane Sandy blew through town. I’m told winds gusted as high as 46 mph at the Fire Station on Main Street, but could have been even stronger in other parts of town.

Two stabbed in Southborough on Saturday night

Southborough Police responded to a home on Constitution Drive just after midnight on Saturday for a report of a fight in progress. When they arrived, they found two men suffering from “several stab wounds.”
