Pilgrim Church to host interfaith discussion on Islam – Monday, October 22

As part of an ongoing interfaith dialog, Pilgrim Church on Monday will host the Worcester Islamic Society for a conversation about the basics of Islam. While the discussion may help put global events in context, Pilgrim Church Minister Jon Wortmann said the main objective is to understand how Muslims in our own community practice their faith everyday.

“To really understand our world, we need to make connections with our neighbors,” Wortmann said. “There are ways of working on faith that we all share.”

Monday’s discussion will be the continuation of a dialog that started when members of the Worcester Islamic Society visited St. Anne Church last spring. Wortmann said parishioners from Southborough churches may visit Worcester in the future as the next step in the interfaith exchange.

Wortmann said he hopes the discussion will offer a wider exploration of faith that will benefit both the local Muslim and Christian communities. “It gives you a better lens for seeing how you’re making decisions,” he said. “We’ll be smarter people of faith because of it.”

The conversation on Monday begins at 7:00 pm in Pilgrim Church’s Fellowship Hall (map). Wortmann said the event is open to anyone who is interested in taking part in a “respectful and loving conversation” about faith.
