Weekend at a Glance: Baseball movie night & derby, Meet the Farmer, graduations, Iftar party, and Neary alum concert

Here are highlights of what’s happening around town this weekend. 

Friday, June 2, 2017

  • Movie Night & Home Run Derby (5:30 – 6:30 pm) @ Mooney Field: Come on down to the Fields to enjoy a night out with Southborough Little League Families and Friends. Gates Open at 5:00, Majors Home Run Derby Starts at 5:30, Movie “The Sandlot” starts at dusk (8:15) Snack shack and grill will be open. popcorn, candy, hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages will be available for purchase. Bring chairs or a blanket for seating.

  • Meet the Farmer (10:00 am – 12:00 pm) @ Chestnut Hill Farm: Monthly event – free to members but $5 per non-member. This month’s theme is “all things goats”. It’s basically a kids and kids cuddle party, but adults are welcome to cuddle kids too. Be sure to bring your cameras for goat selfies. They will have a simple craft available as well. It’s also a chance to meet the Farm Manager and crew. (And take advantage of the open Farm Stand from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.)
  • Assabet Graduation (2:00 – 3:00 pm) @ DCU Center, Worcester: Graduation ceremony for Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School
  • Maggie Neary Blues Band Alumni Concert (5:00 pm) @ Trottier Middle School: An Alumni Tribute Concert Steve Curtis who is retiring after 38 years of teaching band to Southborough students. Organizers are inviting any alumni out there to join them. For details, see dedicated post
  • Iftar Party (7:30 pm) @ St. Mark’s Church Parish Hall: Southborough and area Muslims are holding this special dinner during the month of Ramadan. The community (no matter religion) is invited to join them celebrating Iftar (breaking of the day’s fast). Participants are encouraged to bring some food and spread the word.

Sunday, June 4, 2017

  • Algonquin Graduation (2:00 pm) @ Algonquin Gymnasium: Tickets are not required to attend the graduation ceremony; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The gym does get warm on hot summer days, so seating for those with special concerns will be available in the air-conditioned auditorium with a live video feed to the ceremony.
