A few Algonquin teams had a very good week. Three of them came home from competitions as League Champions.

Swimming/Diving teams were favored to win at the Mid-Wach Championships. They didn’t disappoint. The Telegram reports that in Boys:

Ray Cerro set meet and school records in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke to lead Algonquin to the team championship Thursday night at the Tri-Y Swim Club.

The Tomahawks finished with 311 points, 25 better than Westboro.

And for the Girls:

Lizzie Meschisen won the 1-meter diving in a meet-record 295.90 points to help Algonquin (344 points) capture the team title Thursday night.

At the Mid-Wach A League Championship Indoor Track meet, the Boys came in first. Contributing to that were the following wins

  • Matt Madamba for the 300m dash
  • Alex Lemieux for the high Jump
  • Alex Rybarczyk for the 55m hurdles

Girls’ track came in 3rd place after Wachusetts and Shepherd Hill. But they also boasted 3 first place medals:

  • Tess Reyes for both the the Girls mile and the Girls 1000m run
  • Day Ruffo for the 300m dash.

The Telegram reports that Girls Skiing won their race on Thursday:

Algonquin’s Kaitlyn Desio was tops in 56.12, while teammate Rudy Utzschneider was third (57.71) to lift the Tomahawks to team honors with 947 points at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury.

The Harbinger shared that the team is hopeful about sending skiiers to states:

“The inner team competition on both the boys’ and girls’ side has been intense with different people fighting for the top spots on the team every week,” Rudy Utzschneider said. “This has driven people to work harder and harder, so hopefully we will see a few people at States.”

The team looks forward to the future with a solid chance of making States.

“The girls’ team is looking to field a really successful team at States composed of four or five girls,” Richardson said. “The boys’ team hopes to field one or two States racers.”

Boys Basketball returned to form. The team won three games last week, one of which prompted the Telegram to write:

When talking about the best high school boys’ basketball teams in Central Mass., it might be wise to start with Algonquin Regional.

The third-ranked Tomahawks proved why they belong in the conversation during Sunday’s effort against top-ranked St. John’s.

Algonquin, sparked by the lethal one-two punch of senior Nick Redden and freshman Alexander Karaban, built a commanding 17-point lead by the break and never looked back en route to a 74-53 triumph at Coaches Pavilion.

Girls Basketball and Girls Hockey each scored a win and loss last week. Boys Hockey scored a tie with Natick and a win over Nashoba bringing their record to 8-3-3

Wrestling traveled to D2 State Duals Tournament on Saturday. The team tweeted victory over Danvers, but it followed losses to Winchester and Plymouth South.

Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for the week.
