Town of Southborough

  • Youth Services, Southborough Public Library (full time) 

Under the direction of the Library Director and Assistant Library Director, the children’s librarian performs basic-to-moderate library services and professional work at the circulation desk. This librarian will take the lead on young adult services for ages 12-19, including teen programming, teen services, and staffing of the library’s new Teen Room. Will assist in the Children’s Room with children’s services and programs as needed.

Public relations experience, as well as proven written and verbal communication and superior customer service skills are essential. Organizational, procedural and public relations proficiency, and an ability to develop and maintain a rapport with the public, as well as an ability to supervise and secure the cooperation of the library staff are desired. Provides public service assistance, shelving of library materials, administrative assistance, execute library programs, empties outdoor book drop, and fulfills other duties as needed. 40 hours/weekly, required evening and weekend hours.

Requires a Master’s Degree in a field commensurate with library science, i.e. education, English, literature, or related field and a Master’s Degree in Library Science, both from an accredited ALA college or university is preferred; two- (2) to three- (3) years of experience working with children and young adults; or any combination of education and experience. Pay range from the minimum to the midpoint is $26.07 – $30.63 per hour.

The Trustees of Reservations (Chestnut Hill Farm)

Historic Chestnut Hill Farm is a 170-acre organic vegetable CSA farm, owned and managed by The Trustees, a member-supported nonprofit conservation organization that preserves, for public use and enjoyment, properties of exceptional scenic, historic, and ecological value in Massachusetts, and works to protect special places across the state. The farm also grows livestock for a meat CSA, has an inviting trail system and provides extensive farm and nature-based experiential educational programming and events.

  • Seasonal Field Crew (full time, seasonal)

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about sustainable agriculture and eager to take on a range of responsibilities in this fast-paced environment. This includes greenhouse work, transplanting, weeding, harvest, distribution, and end of season farm organizing/clean-up. The Field Crew mainly participates in vegetable production and may also participate in routine livestock chores.

Applicants should be responsible, flexible, personable, and able to work both alone and as part of a small farm crew. We are looking for employees who can approach the physical demands of farming with consistency and good humor. Please submit application with cover letter if you are ready to learn, take and give direction, and enjoy working with a wide range of people. The position is 35-50 hours/week, with the longer days being at the beginning of the season.

  • Event Assistant (part time)

The role of the Event Assistant is to manage small programs/events, assist with larger events, promote Trustees membership and engage and excite visitors, program participants, and private lessees at Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough, MA. The position is part time, year-round, often on weekends, evenings, and holidays. The Event Assistant is responsible for assisting with onsite execution of public programs and private events throughout the farm property. Tasks may range from event set up (moving tables and chairs) organization and decor, greeting/checking-in participants upon arrival, assisting with classes (material set-up and break-down), selling memberships and providing membership information to visitors, accessing guest lists from Trustees software, and more. At all events and programs, the Event Assistant will educate and encourage visitors to support The Trustees through a variety of outlets. Events and programming are farm-based or nature-based; a significant amount of programming occurs outdoors.

Harvard University (Harvard Book Depository)

The Harvard Depository is a customer-focused storage facility housing primarily paper-based library collections and records, located in Southborough. 

  • Resource Sharing Assistant (full time)

Under the direction of the Harvard Depository Resource Sharing Manager, and as a part of the Access Services team, Resource Sharing Specialist is responsible for scanning requests for Harvard’s Collections for the use by other libraries and individuals worldwide in an efficient, timely and cost-effective manner through the use of resource sharing tools and best practices.

Please note: the regular schedule for this position is 40 hours per week. Flexible working hours within 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM with two paid 15 minute breaks and a half hour unpaid lunch. Alternatively, the schedule could be set to include an additional half hour to accommodate an hour unpaid lunch.
