The rematch did not go as Algonquin hoped. For the second year in a row, Algonquin girls lacrosse faced off against Longmeadow in the District 1 state semifinals, but unlike last year, the girls on Wednesday fell to their West Division rival.
Congratulations go out to the Algonquin girls lacrosse team for capturing the Central Division 1 title for the second year in a row. The top-ranked girls soundly beat 3rd-seed Shrewsbury at Foley Stadium on Friday by a score of 18-9.
One Algonquin team is left standing in the high school postseason. After knocking off Groton-Dunstable yesterday by a score of 16-8, the girls lacrosse team is headed to the Central District 1 finals where the returning champs will look to defend their title.
Going into yesterday’s first round playoff match against Marlborough, the Algonquin baseball team was on a 9-0 winning streak against their Central Division 1 rival. Yesterday they made it 10-0.
Five Southborough 7th graders are headed to the AAU Boys Basketball National Championships, June 22-30. At least they will be if they raise the necessary funds.
With a 12-5 win over Shepherd Hill yesterday, the Algonquin boys lacrosse team has advanced to the Central Division 2 quarterfinal round. Fifth seed Algonquin will face off against 4th-seed Littleton on Saturday at 4:00 pm in Littleton.
Congratulations to the Algonquin girls rugby team for a dominating performance at the high school state championships on Saturday at Fort Devens. The team ended the tournament with their third consecutive state title.
As the school year draws to a close, student athletes at Algonquin are hoping for a memorable finish. A number of Algonquin teams, including baseball, boys volleyball, and both boys and girls lacrosse have made it into the postseason and will be playing in key games this week.
