Hopkinton water plant controversy

A proposed waste-water treatment plant in Hopkinton has the potential to impact Southborough. The town has received approval from local boards and the Department of Environmental Protection to build the plant on Fruit St., but local environmentalists have filed suit to block the project contending it would pollute Cedar Swamp.

Cedar Swamp lies on the southwestern edge of Southborough, with most of its area in Westborough and Hopkinton. But it forms the headwaters of the Sudbury River which flows along Southborough’s southern boundary. So, what flows from Hopkinton eventually flows through Southborough.
