The Southborough Food Pantry needs your help

Sometime next month the state plans to place 10 to 15 homeless families at the Red Roof Inn in Southborough. Many of the families will arrive with pratically nothing, and the United Parishes of Southborough Food Pantry is trying to help.

There are no cooking facilities at the Red Roof Inn, so the pantry is looking for donations of non-perishable food that can be microwaved, along with supplies like can openers, paper plates, and plastic utensils. They also need diapers and laundry and dish detergent. Here’s a list of food items the pantry needs:

  • Beef stew
  • Cereal
  • 12-oz. cans of chicken, small canned hams, canned tuna
  • Chicken gravy
  • Cookies and crackers
  • Cup-of-Soup or ramen noodles
  • Dry milk
  • Canned fruit and vegetables
  • Instant potatoes and instant rice
  • Juice boxes or large bottled juice
  • Macaroni, macaroni and cheese, Pasta-Roni
  • Peanut butter
  • Soup
  • Spaghettios
  • Spaghetti sauce

The food pantry also hopes to supply the families with small dorm refrigerators and small microwaves. If you have gently-used ones you can donate they will be accepted, but new appliances are preferred. Monetary contributions are always accepted and are tax deductible. Make checks out to the Southborough Food Pantry and send them to P. O. Box 281, Southborough, MA 01772.

Donations may be left in the foyer at the side door of Pilgrim Church, or in the parish hall. You can also drop off items during pantry hours: Tuesdays from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, and Fridays from 10:00 to 11:00 am.

Other churches in town also have drop-off areas, but I don’t know exactly where they are. If you do, please leave a note in the comments.
